Optic disc localization using graph traversal algorithm along blood vessel in polar retinal image

The optic disc (OD) is an important landmark of the retina and its location essential for computer-aided diagnosis diabetic retinopathy glaucoma. This paper presented a new method that applies proposed graph traversal algorithm vertical vascular infrastructure to detect root nodes representing optical discs. algorithms were designed process terrific view blood vessels from polar image without depending on prominent OD characteristic circular/elliptical shape brightness. Before constructing infrastructure, multi-scale multi-orientation top-hat filters properly approximate different sizes directions. provided efficiency certainty complex retinal images such as low contrast with illumination distorted due structure. evaluation was performed five public fundus databases analysis. Experimental results revealed identified valid discs high accuracy 91.21%, 95.09%, 88.45%, 91.66%, 95.01% corresponding data sets outperformed comparison methods.
